A Beat Face and Full Heart At The 2019 Beauty Revolution Festival๐Ÿ’‹๐Ÿ’„๐Ÿ’…๐Ÿพ

Yes, that’s me deep down in balls – but more on that later.

This past weekend, Sandton was home to the first annual Beauty Revolution Festival and it did not disappoint. Over the course of the 6th and 7th April, hundreds of beauty bloggers, writers, addicts, and buyers made their way into the Sandton Convention Centre and essentially entered beauty-lover heaven.
I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not a fan of the mushy stuff but there was just something about this festival that just made me feel all sparkly and pretty inside. Almost like a real princess – almost.

Revlon, SwitchBeauty, NYX, Candi & Co, MAC, MAYBELLINE, KIEHL’S, URBAN DECAY – whatever beauty brand you allow to slice your salary in half, chances are it definitely had a stall at the festival. Also, by coming to the festival – you didn’t have to cut your salary in half because of all the amazing sales! I was like a barefaced kid in pre-contoured heaven. That being said, here are my favorite beauty stalls from the festival:

1. I Got A Masterclass From The Best – Literally

Youtube tutorials are fun and they’re a great teaching method for beginners. However, sometimes it’s nice to get a few tips from the experts (especially if those experts are doing Pearl Thusi’s face).

Marco Louis Ackers is the head makeup artist at MAC COSMETICS AFRICA and not only was I fortunate enough to have met him, but I also got to watch him show paint Pearl Thusi’s face because, let’s be honest, what he can do is nothing but absolute art.

2. I Got Lipstick-Contoured With MAC

What is a beauty festival without MAC?

Aside from getting to meet the artist that is Marco and also getting a free MAC lipstick kit that a Powder Kiss Lipstick, Matte Lipstick or Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour, I also got my face contoured by lipstick.

My lovely makeup artist (whose name I can’t remember because I’m terrible with names) not only contoured my face but she also used the lipstick as a blush and eye shadow. Talk about being defined and bold! I really should have taken her number because learning how to contour with lipstick is a very budget-friendly thing to do.

3. We Lived Boldly With Revlon

One of my favorite stalls at the festival was definitely the Revlon one, and no, not because I got balls deep into their tub. It was because they were giving out free tattoos!

I have a specific tattoo in mind that I have always dreamed of getting so none of the set-out designs appealed to me. That was until the lovely Mel found one that would have been perfect. Unfortunately, the demand for free tattoos was a little too much and we couldn’t get the tatts. Hey, at least I got to play with balls, right?

4.  FOSCHINI Loves All Women

FentyBeauty started a movement when they released their 50 shades and plenty of brands have happily followed into their footsteps. However, the best part about FOSCHINI ALL WOMEN beauty range is that it takes into account the different skin tones found in South Africa and it caters to that because let’s be honest, some of those American brands that we find in stores still make us look ashy and we have yet to get FENTY BEAUTY into SA (CAN WE START A PETITION. AND ONE FOR SEPHORA TOO!)

Another aspect that I liked about Foschini’s brand (aside from the giant beating heart) was the fact that they had makeup artists of different ethnic backgrounds who could do makeup on any skin! #RAINBOWNATION

5. We Let Our Hair Down With DARLING

One major reason as to why I was excited about the festival was that I thought that there would be various stalls dedicated to black hair. Sadly, there wasn’t as many as I would have liked. However, this was the festival’s inaugural year so I’m sure next year we’ll be leaving the festival with laid edges (toothbrush included).

Luckily, we got to hang out with some of the DARLING darlings and it just makes me so happy to see black hair shown as the work of art that it truly is.

It was a great and beautiful weekend and I applaud the entire Beauty Revolution team for their hard work and for effortlessly pulling off such a great event. My make-up brushes are primed and ready for next year!
