For the second year in a row, I found myself in beauty-writer heaven. Also, the fact that this was the last event I was able to attend before adopting social distancing, as a result of the COVID19 coronavirus, makes it that much sweeter.
Over the weekend that was the 13th and 14th March, the boldest beauty festival in Africa took over Sandton city. The Beauty Revolution Festival welcomed a hoard of beauty bloggers, writers, addicts, and buyers as they nestled their way, with hand sanitizer in tow, into the Sandton Convention Centre. Also, proving that the early bird does indeed get the worm, the first 150 into the festival were rewarded with goodie bags, rich in products.

Revlon, NYX, Candi & Co, MAC, MAYBELLINE, Aunt Jackie’s, SORBET– our favourite beauty brands made sure that they cemented their place at our favourite beauty festival. What’s more, staying true to their dedication and love to their consumers, the brands also offered amazing sales! What more could a bare-faced girl ask for?! That being said, here are my favourite moments from the festival:
1.Queen Sono Got Us Fit
Regardless of how you feel about the writing quality and acting on Netflix’s new show, Queen Sono, you’d have to be blind not to see the obvious work that Pearl Thusi puts into maintaining her amazing physique.

As such, with yoga mats in tow, Beauty Revolution attendees were blessed to an amazing fitness class, led by Ms. Thusi and in collaboration with NIKE South Africa, leaving their skin glowing and healthy.
If you really want an essential skincare tips, it’s this – exercising and being active helps to keep your skin healthy, particularly by encouraging blood circulation and helping to expel those nasty toxins that cause breakouts, blemishes and premature aging.
2. Candi&Co Showed Off Their Wig Collection
Now as a self-professed naturalista, it would be hard for me not to get excited whenever I see Candi & Co at any festival.
That said, their stall didn’t just stop at catering to your locks, but they went further by even doing your nails. In partnership with MTN, the Candi and Co stall offered the The Glambox, which offered colourful hair extensions, nails and even eyebrow glam.

On top of that, the haircare giants also revealed that they were going into wig business. With such a strong emphasis that the brand places on healthy, black haircare, I’m actually quite excited to see what the brand offers, especially with all the horror stories we hear about wigs.
3. We Lived Boldly (and played the odds) With Revlon
Similar to last year, Revlon definitely stood out the way it always does.
For one, the brand was giving out free tattoos and for me that’s a win on its own. Unfortunately, like last year, the demand for free tattoos was a little too much and I couldn’t get the tatts.
But, that doesn’t mean that I couldn’t play with the brand. In fact, Revlon was giving everyone a chance to win some free Revlon products. All they had to do was lock themselves in a booth for 30 seconds, and as different-coloured papers rushed at them, made sure that they grabbed the white ones.
Trust me, it sounds less like a level of hell in Dante’s Inferno, and more like a fun game to get your stress and worries out.
In fact, I managed to snag myself a purple Revlon UltraHD Matte Lip Mousse.
4. The Masterclasses Just Keep On Giving
What’s the point of attending Beauty Revolution if you don’t get to rub shoulders, and get some tips, from the country’s most popular makeup artists?

Because Beauty Revolution is always the gift that keeps on giving, the festival offered us masterclasses that were hosted by our faves, including Rushana Isaacs, Marco Louis, and Mihlali Ndamase.
5. The panel spread love and gave us a lot to think about
Unlike most festivals, Beauty Revolution isn’t just focused on our outer experience, but it makes sure to touch what’s beneath the surface.
As such, the festival offered panels that delved into meaningful discussions ranging from self-esteem issues to the very important aspect of representation.

Making sure to offer a voice to the various people in attendance at the festival, the panels made sure to feature strong and intelligent women such as ThickLeeYonce, Lady Skollie, Thando Hopa, and Yoliswa Mqoco.
As always, Beauty Revolution Festival once the best beauty festival that money could buy so kudos to the entire Beauty Revolution team for their hard work as well as their effortless need to cater to every consumer, no matter the shade, and no matter their eyebrow size.
See you next year beauties!
