A Peek Inside The Mommy Club With Showmax

It’s officially MILF season at Showmax.
On Sunday afternoon, I got the privilege to take a peek inside Showmax’s new show The Mommy Club and between you and me, it almost made me want to grow something inside my stomach – almost.

Joining The Mommy Club

The new show, which premiered today on Showmax, provides an all-access inside look at the lives of five glamorous moms who seemingly have it all.

“The Mommy Club is a concept that I thought about after I had my first baby in 2020,” says Zinzi Velelo, creator and executive producer of the show.

“I would see these glam women on social media living their best lives and I would ask myself how they do it. They seemed to have it all together, and I didn’t, so that sparked my interest.”

Admittedly, I wasn’t a fan of the concept when I first heard about the show.

How so?

Well, these types of women definitely have help with building their empires and raising their heirs, and I was concerned that this was not going to be addressed.

However, not only do the ladies display the vital roles that their nannies play in their homes, but the nannies also have their own confessionals, proving that they’re just as important to the show as the mommies.

“The ladies had figured it out because they had the best childcare, and that’s what helped them hold it all together. It takes a village.”

Who’s Your Mommy?

Tshego Manche, Nunuarai Mudarikwa, Happy “HerMajesty” Simelane, Ratile Mabitsela, Mpumi Mops

The featured mommies are;

  • Tshego Manche, a fashion luxury girl and entrepreneur
  • Nunurai Mudarikwa, a party planner with a Master’s Degree in Informatics.
  • Happy “HerMajesty” Simelane, a published author and businesswoman
  • Ratile Mabitsela, a business owner and former Miss Tembisa
  • Mpumi Mops, a former star of The Real Housewives of Johannesburg

Nunurai makes a splash in the first episode by spending a whopping R250 000 on her son’s first birthday party,

It was my son’s first birthday, so I just felt like I needed to go big; it was a very big occasion to celebrate.

Speaking of the children, not only do we get to see them live a life similar to that of North West, but they also get their own confessionals. Admittedly, I’m not a fan of that as Mzansi Twitter can be cruel, especially towards privileged kids.

That said, the cast shared that they had an open and honest conversation with their kids, with Mrs. Mops adding, “I just told them that if they ever hear anything about mommy or themselves, they should just ignore them and keep things positive.”

HerMajesty echoed these sentiments, adding that she let her children know that “People will say negative things, and it’s typically a reflection of who they are, not who you are.”

Should I spend my Tuesdays with The Mommy Club?

Honestly? Yes.

It’s the reality TV that we’ve all been missing, and that we each fell in love with the first time we saw Andy Cohen on our screens. It’s light shade. Obnoxious wealth. WTF moments in the very first episode that’s sure to set the tone for the rest of the season.

And the best part?

These reality TV stars don’t just show up in booked-out empty restaurants to fight, but we actually see them have lives beyond the money and cars, and that’s always refreshing to see.
