The world is brimming with beauty products, and sometimes it can be hard to know what’s best for you and your skin. So, to help you better navigate the field that is the beauty playground, I sat down with Gisele Wertheim Aymes to chat all things beauty and skincare.
What’s On The Beauty Playground?
Clive Christian Town and Country
If you’re in the mood for a strong, impressionable scent, then Clive Christian’s Town and Country is the fragrance you’re looking for.

Originally created in 1925, Clive Christian has reimagined Town & Country to create a scent that captures the delicate and charming rawness of the countryside and the elegance of good old London town.
However, as mentioned, the fragrance is pretty strong. How strong? Well Eau de Toilette (EDT) have a perfume concentration of 5-15%, eau de parfum 15-25% and parfum fragrances have a 25-35% perfume concentration. How much does Clive Christian Town & Country have? 25% perfume concentration, which translates to a powerful, strong and long-lasting fragrance.
So, what’s in it?
The fragrance contains clary sage, grey amber and sandalwood – three ingredients that not only provide an elegant but almost musky scent, but they also induce relaxation and promotes positive thinking and concentration.
Additionally, you can also find citronella in the perfume, which serves to deodorize and reduce body odour.
Where to wear it?
Admittedly, I wouldn’t wear this out to a music festival. But, if you’re looking to make an impression at a dinner party and remind everyone at the table that you’re a sophisticated, intelligent and captivating boss, then this is the scent for you.
You can purchase the perfume for R 9 545.00 from Skins Cosmetics.
Fenty Skin Watch Ya Tone Niacinamide Dark Spot Serum
I have oily skin, and sometimes this creates a cycle whereby I get pimples, pluck at them (yes, I know), and then pout at the post-inflammatory acne scars left behind. This then leaves me in a conundrum where I’m forced to find a solution for not only my dark marks, but also my oily skin.
Luckily, Fenty Skin has come to my rescue with their Watch Ya Tone Niacinamide Dark Spot Serum.

So, what’s in it?
As mentioned in the name, the Fenty Skin serum contains niacinamide, a form of vitamin B that’s honestly your best defense against dark spots. If that’s not enough, niacinamide helps to regulate sebum production, which is great news for me, improve skin texture, as well as boost collagen and reduce the appearance of pores.
The serum may have niacinamide in its name, but that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t have other skin-boosting ingredients like vitamin C, licorice root extract and barbados cherry, all of which boost overall skin brightness.
Who should wear it?
Any and everyone, any and every time.
Regardless of whether you’re struggling with dark spots, niacinamide is an ingredient that should be part of your skincare arsenal, as it boasts a wide range of benefits. Additionally, I’ve particularly enjoyed using this serum during the South African winter as it has hydrating properties.
Oh, did I also mention that this product is about sustainability? Its protective outer box, outer bottle, and inner bottle are each recyclable. Once you’re done with the inner bottle, you can remove it, discard it, get a refill and place it inside the outer bottle and close with the cap.
You can purchase the serum, and refill, for R 895.00, or R810.00, from ARC or Edgars Beauty.
