Burna Boy To Burn Up FNB Stadium

Proving once again that September in South Africa is the official month for all festivals and parties, Nigerian-born global superstar Burna Boy is set to headline a concert at the FNB Stadium on the 23rd of September.

Burn Boy To Fill Up FNB Stadium

This is the Grammy Award winner’s second act in the country, having drawn massive numbers last year for the DStv Delicious Festival. Ironically, his performance is set to take place the same weekend as the 2023 DStv Delicious Festival, but at a much bigger venue with the stadium boasting 94 736 seats.

It’s a pretty big stadium and when it comes to filling it up, the only African artist to come close to doing so is Cassper Nyovest who, in 2017, broke attendee records by entertaining 68 000 people. Yet, considering that Burna Boy recently made history by becoming the first African to headline a stadium show in the United States by selling out a 41 800-seater stadium, as well as performing a sold-out concert at the 60,000-capacity London Stadium, I get the feeling that the Last Last singer is going to do just fine.

After all, the overcrowding issue that occurred at the DStv Delicious Festival last year was because people were excited to see Burna Boy. That said, let’s hope the same issue won’t happen again this year. After all, we can still recall the débâcle following the 2018 Global Citizen Festival, where concert-goers were robbed and assaulted as they tried to request e-hailing services outside the stadium.

Nonetheless, I’m sure the event organisers, Ternary Music Group, are going to do their part to ensure a safe and fabulous event.
