Ever since The Real Housewives of Durban Season 5 premiered exclusively on Showmax a few weeks ago, it’s become one of the country’s most talked-about shows, trending regularly on X. While viewers continue to fawn over the OGs of Nonku Williams, Sorisha Naidoo, and Jojo Robinson, they’ve also developed affection for 30-year-old newcomer Kwanele Kubheka, a wife, mother of four, entrepreneur, and social media influencer.
Kwanele Kubheka Dishes on RHOD
Speaking on her decision to join The Real Housewives of Durban, Kubheka reveals that while she’s always naturally been a shy person, she felt that it was time to challenge herself and step out of her comfort zone.
“I wanted to see if I could be more than just the quiet, reserved version of myself, and whether I could find my voice and share it with the world.”
While she admits that it’s been a journey, she is proud of herself for taking the leap and joining the show.
As for how she felt watching herself on screen?
“To be honest, watching myself on screen has been a bit of a shock,” she admits, while adding that it’s been an eye-opening ride, and she’s learned so much about herself in the process.
“Some scenes came out in ways I didn’t expect, but ultimately they captured the real me. It’s been a mix of emotions but overall, I’m proud of how I’ve been portrayed and the stories that have been shared.”
The Real In Relationships
Relationships can be hard, so imagine exposing all of your dirty laundry on camera for the world to see. It’s not the easiest thing to do, and sometimes it has consequences – just ask any Bravo housewife who’s been divorced. As such, one has to wonder why Kubheka would be willing to bring a third person – the viewers – into her marriage,
“For me, it was really important to be open and honest. As a couple, we’ve faced challenges like anyone else. It’s easy to put on a perfect façade for the world to see, but I wanted to show the real us.”
Kubheka adds that life is about authenticity, and she believes that’s what makes it so relatable.
“We’re not perfect, but we’re navigating it all together. I hope that by sharing our story, we can encourage others to be honest about their own struggles and know they’re not alone.”
All That Glitters Can Be Gold
As a reality TV aficionado, I’ve witnessed how toxic the show can get, and Khubeka had the same reservations. However, she’s been pleasantly surprised and even made some friends along the way,
“I feel really lucky to have formed genuine connections with all the ladies on the show. Each of us brings something unique to the table, and I think that’s what makes our dynamic so special. Every lady has been an incredible source of support and inspiration.”
However, that doesn’t mean that being a reality TV star doesn’t have its drawbacks,
“Every little thing you say or do gets picked apart. It’s hard to get used to, but it’s been a huge learning experience.”
Nonetheless, despite being shy, Khubeka is comfortable in her truth, and the way she’s being portrayed, saying,
“I’m all about keeping it real and being authentic, rather than trying to create a particular image or stir up controversy.”
