This past weekend, the city of Joburg came alive with unforgettable performances from Major League DJz, Jeremy Loops, DBN Gogo, 340ML, Zakes Bantwini, and more for a sold-out crowd, as Corona celebrated 100 years under the sun. Now, following its golden success, the festival is set to return to Mother City in 2026.
Corona Sunsets Festival Shines Bright in Joburg
At the Johannesburg festival this past weekend, the Corona Sunsets festival drew 12,000 festivalgoers to Casalinga in Muldersdrift and showcased its signature fusion of world-class music and natural beauty. While Major League DJz, DBN Gogo, Jeremy Loops, and Afro-rock icons 340ML electrified the crowd, Zakes Bantwini, DJ Kent, FKA Mash, Oscar Mbo, and the Ndlovu Youth Choir delivered unforgettable sets that celebrated the strength and diversity of South Africa’s music scene.
More Than Music
This year, Corona marks “100 Years Under The Sun,” celebrating a century of encouraging people to step outside, slow down, and reconnect with nature. More than a beer, Corona has become a symbol of balance and shared moments, reminding everyone to pause, enjoy the sunset, and connect with others.
So, true to its promise of being more than just a music festival, the festival also featured inspiring voices in mindfulness and creativity, such as yoga and meditation guide Dr. Anesu Mbizvo, mantra and movement facilitator Mandla Enoch (the African Dragonfly). There were also sustainability changemakers who brought the festival’s “Protect Our Sunset” initiative to life – setting the tone for the mindful experiences audiences can continue to expect.
What’s more, Daniel Popper’s monumental art installation, a Corona-branded hot air balloon, aerial performers soaring above the crowds, also featured. This then all culminated in the iconic Sunset Moment, with a moving performance of When the Sun Goes Down by the Ndlovu Youth Choir.
A Streamed Experience
Now, while the festival was sold out, that doesn’t mean that those at home missed out. For the first time, the Corona Sunsets Festival experience was brought to millions of South Africans nationwide through an exclusive partnership with the SABC, which broadcast the event live across SABC 1, S3, and SABC Plus. The partnership not only extended the magic of the festival beyond Casalinga, but also highlighted the SABC’s ongoing role in shaping and celebrating South African culture.
“This partnership was about more than just broadcasting a concert – it was about connecting South Africans through a shared experience, wherever they were,” says Melanie Nicholson, Head of Brand: Corona South Africa. “It’s a milestone that sets the stage for even bigger moments in Cape Town next year.”
Cape Town’s Moment In The Sun
Following the golden-hour magic of the Corona Sunsets Festival in Johannesburg this past weekend, the iconic global festival series will return to Clifton, Cape Town, on Saturday, 21 March 2026.
A highlight on South Africa’s cultural calendar, the festival will once again deliver a breathtaking celebration of music, nature, and connection – all set against the spectacular backdrop of the Mother City’s coastline.
The first Corona Sunsets Festival in South Africa was held in Cape Town in 2016, and next year’s event will mark 10 years of golden-hour celebrations in the country. From a world tour in 2023 to its biggest edition yet in Johannesburg in 2025, the festival continues to grow on a global scale.
Building on its “More Than Music” philosophy, the Cape Town edition will encourage festivalgoers to pause, reconnect, and experience the golden hour with intention. This ethos comes to life through curated wellness workshops, sustainable food gardens, live art, and interactive performances designed to engage all the senses.
“Cape Town holds a special place in the Corona Sunsets journey. Bringing the festival back to this incredible city, with its sunsets, coastline, and vibrant music culture, feels like coming home. As we celebrate 100 years under the sun, we can’t wait to create more golden-hour memories together with Cape Town.” – Melanie Nicholson, Head of Brand: Corona South Africa.
