Portia Baloyi: Showmax’s Cheesegirl Chats Married At First Sight Mzansi

After an explosive season and an even crazier reunion, Married at First Sight South Africa has officially wrapped up Season 2. With each episode bringing fresh drama, raw emotion, and explosive moments, viewers were tuned into baby mama tension, debates around polygamy, questionable experts, and fiery conversations about religion and intimacy.

With the full season now available to watch on Showmax, the hit series followed four brave couples who tied the knot as strangers and faced the highs and lows of married life in real time: Palesa Mphaki and Tshepo Miya, Makoto Phumodi and Nkuleleko Mahlangu, Themba Khosa and Nelisa Ntabeni, and Portia Baloyi and Bongani Luvalo.

Post Reunion Chat with Portia Baloyi

In the highly anticipated reunion special hosted by Relebogile Mabotja, emotions ran high and unresolved tensions came to a head as the couples looked back on their journeys. Of the four couples who took part in the experiment, to the disappointment of many but unsurprisingly to most, only Nelisa and Themba remain married and are currently still building their life together.

For Baloyi, being on the show can only be described as a rollercoaster, especially when you consider that she married a complete stranger in front of the world, fell in love, and then got divorced.

“There’ve been amazing moments, don’t get me wrong, but also real challenges. It’s stretched me emotionally and spiritually, but I’ve also grown so much.”

She adds that she’s learned how to communicate better when she gives herself space to breathe first, instead of reacting, which implies a lot of personal growth on her part.

Reunion Reveals

The reunion is often the favourite episode for fans of reality TV, as it allows for the cast to be held accountable, and it also offers them and viewers alike some closure.

Now, while she had mixed emotions going into the reunion, Baloyi remains proud of herself for showing up fully and being true to who she really is,

“I didn’t hold back, and that’s something I’ll always stand by.”

Speaking of honesty, Baloyi revealed that her marriage to Bongani Luvalo had come to an end. One may surmise that Baloyi’s comments about Luvalo’s appearance and her view of his sisters, throughout the show, may have played a part in the demise of the union.

“It hasn’t been easy, but we’ve had some real conversations since filming ended. We’re not where we were on decision day, that’s for sure.”

Furthermore, there’s more bad news for the viewers who enjoyed watching the two fall in love, with Baloyi sharing that reconciliation may not be in the cards for them,

“I think both of us are focused on healing and moving forward individually,” she shares, “What the future holds, only God knows, but right now, my priority is peace, growth, and rebuilding myself from a place of strength and grace.”
