From Founding Housewife to Global Icon: Madam Evodia Joins RHUGT: Africa

The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip: Africa is bringing together some of the continent’s most iconic Housewives for the ultimate girls’ trip, set against the colourful backdrop of Brazil. Promising a perfect blend of glamour, sisterhood, romance, luxury, and drama, The Real Housewives of Johannesburg‘s OG Madam Evodia Mogase brings her larger-than-life personality for a once-in-a-lifetime experience filled with unforgettable moments.

Madame of the House(wives)

In 2019, The Real Housewives franchise expanded to Africa with the launch of The Real Housewives of Johannesburg, featuring fan favorites Madam Evodia Mogase and Christall Kay. As Madam didn’t return for the show’s second (and penultimate season), The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip: Africa marks her return to reality TV.

For Mogase, her time away from reality TV allowed her to grasp how big of an inspiration she had been to other women, as well as the level of popularity that comes with being on TV. She adds that being back in front of the camera felt like coming home, as it brought back some amazing memories.

“I wanted an opportunity to reconnect with my viewers that I love so much, and definitely travel to Brazil, it’s very beautiful, and I got to meet some of the ladies I admire and respect from the African franchises. Why not now? There’s never a better time; some opportunities come at the right time.”

What’s more, she appreciated how the production team was able to capture not just her flawless glamour but also her resilience, her laughter, and all the other sides that people may not always get to see of her.

Fresh Friendships For A Founding Housewife

Considering she was part of the first crop of African housewives to grace our TVs, Madam definitely has opinions about the women attempting to carry the torch after her,

“I truly believe they are good in their own right,” she says, “However, I do tend to also see a lot of pretence and a lot of ladies acting versus being who they really are.”

Now, despite her misgivings about some women in the Real Housewives universe, Madam revealed that she was able to bond with the rest of the Ultimate Girls Trip cast. These include fellow Real Housewives of Johannesburg‘s Christall Kay; Annie Mthembu, Angel Ndlela, and Jojo Robinson from The Real Housewives of Durban, and The Real Housewives of Nairobi stars Dr Catherine Masitsa and Zena Nyambu, Princess Jecoco from Abuja, Mariam Timmer from Lagos.

Unfortunately, as the days were filled with shooting and activities, Madam shares that she wasn’t able to bond and connect with the rest of the women on a deeper level. However, she does admit that she perceived 70% of the women as ‘too unrealistic’,

“They were ganging up as one, and I didn’t fully get the opportunity to see the real them.”

As for her relationship with Christall Kay, which featured a lot of friction and tension during season 1 of The Real Housewives of Johannesburg? Madame says that viewers may be surprised by what they see,

“Over the years, a lot has changed, so make sure you don’t miss even one episode.”

Embracing a fabulous and unapologetically true era, Madame is all about being authentic, creating an impact, having influence, and confidence. With that, she’s excited for the new season of Ultimate Girls Trip: Africa premiering on Showmax Friday, 28 November, and on Mzansi Magic on Saturdays from 6 December at 7PM, as it promises laughter, drama, bonding, explosive moments, and crying all wrapped in fabulousness,

“It’s women celebrating their differences and learning from each other. It’s not just a trip, it’s an experience of power and, darling, when Madam travels, the world watches. Madam will never disappoint you!”
