Sip in Style: Tanqueray and MaXhosa’s Laduma Ngxokolo Elevate the COPA Glass

In a thrilling new collaboration that brings together South African craftsmanship and iconic design, gin brand Tanqueray has partnered up with Laduma Ngxokolo – the acclaimed founder and Creative Director of fashion house, MaXhosa. The new partnership features the reimagination of the beloved COPA glass, a symbol of nostalgia for South African gin lovers, blending tradition with contemporary flair.

Tanqueray and Maxhosa’s Laduma Ngxokolo Reimagine COPA Glass

Spearheaded by Laduma Ngxokolo, MaXhosa stands as a beacon of innovation in the world of fashion and design. Over the years, Ngxokolo has gained a reputation for his ability to breathe new life into cultural narratives through his designs.

Drawing inspiration from the rich tapestry of South African culture, Ngxokolo seamlessly weaves elements of tradition into a modern masterpiece that encapsulates the spirit of celebration.

Ngxokolo used his skills to design the landscape through the lens of the COPA glass, focusing on two iterations of the Tanqueray COPA.

“Tanqueray’s lifestyle appeal and how they position themselves highlights as more than just an alcohol brand,” explained Ngxokolo on his decision to work with the brand.

A Drinkable Work Of Art

With Tanqueray London Dry Gin being one of the world’s most award-winning gins, it’s no surprise that the two brands have collaborated to enhance your tasting experience.

The COPA glass now transforms into a work of art that transcends hosting as a style signature. Ngxokolo’s artistic vision breathes new life into this cherished symbol, making it a must-have for collectors and enthusiasts alike.

Speaking on the design process, Ngxokolo shares that Tanqueray provided the MaXhosa team with a blank canvas which featured the gin brand’s signature green gradient. Over time, they settled on a new logo by infusing their logo with Tanqueray’s. They also incorporated an archival pattern that represented the beauty of the new collaboration.

“I found immense inspiration in collaborating with Tanqueray to design the COPA Glass. Weaving the artistry of our identity into the elegance of glassware has been a creative journey that beautifully marries craftsmanship and innovation, making every sip an exquisite experience”, Laduma expresses.

MaXhosa x Tanqueray Bring Culture To Your Home

Speaking on the new collaboration, Khanyisa Ntshuntshe, Senior Brand Manager at Diageo, shares that the union goes beyond owning a beautiful new glass, but rather,

“It’s about creating an object that holds cultural significance and brings people together. We wanted to infuse the spirit of MaXhosa into a piece that can be cherished in moments of celebration.”

Additionally, for Ngxokolo, the significance of this new partnership extends to a broader vision of home décor for the MaXhosa brand,

“There’s often a misconception that cultural and home-grown brands cannot be paired well with Eurocentric brands and innovations,” says Ngxokolo,

“We were more than happy to take up that challenge and prove that it is possible to adorn a Eurocentric brand with African patterns whilst still maintaining elegance.”
